About
Who I Am:
I've always been interested in how people learn, which probably explains why I've managed to build a career around it in a few different ways.
I started my career as an elementary school teacher, where I learned very quickly that knowing something isn't the same as knowing how to teach it. Later, I moved into front-end development, which gave me a completely different way to think about technology, design, and how people interact with digital experiences. Eventually, those two paths came together and led me to instructional design.
Today, I focus on creating interactive eLearning and learning experiences that give people opportunities to practice, make decisions, and apply what they're learning. I'm especially drawn to scenario-based learning and Articulate Storyline development because I love figuring out how to turn an instructional idea into something a learner can actually interact with.
How I Work:
I start by asking what the learner actually needs to be able to do. From there, I think about how to create opportunities for practice, feedback, and application rather than simply presenting information.
I enjoy the whole process, from figuring out the instructional approach to designing the interaction and building it in Storyline. My background in front-end development also means I tend to enjoy the technical side of things, especially when there's a tricky interaction or problem to solve.
I'm also constantly experimenting with new tools, including AI, when they can make the design or development process better. I'm interested in using technology thoughtfully, not just because something is new.
What I'm Building:
My goal is to create learning that feels clear, purposeful, and engaging without making the learner work harder than they need to. Whether I'm building a simulation, a branching scenario, or another interactive learning experience, I want learners to leave feeling like they actually practiced something, not just clicked through a course.
Featured Project
Café Lémode Server Simulation
Step into the role of a restaurant server and practice making decisions during a busy shift. This scenario-based simulation challenges learners to prioritize competing guest needs, respond under increasing time pressure, and learn from the consequences of their decisions. Built in Articulate Storyline, the experience uses branching scenarios, custom interactions, accessibility-conscious design, and xAPI performance tracking to create a realistic environment for practicing judgment under pressure.
